Biografía

Blessed Juan Peña Ruiz, also known as Father Vicente, was a Dominican priest who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on March 22, 1883, in Caleruega, Burgos, Spain, and later dedicated his life to the service of God and the Church.

Throughout his ministry, Father Vicente displayed an unwavering commitment to his faith and a deep compassion for those in need. He served his community with great devotion and actively participated in the spiritual formation of his parishioners.

As the Spanish Civil War erupted in 1936, a period of intense religious persecution ensued, particularly targeting Catholic priests. Father Vicente found himself caught in the midst of this violent conflict. On November 30, 1936, in the town of Paracuellos de Jarama, Madrid, he was martyred for his loyalty to the Catholic Church.

Father Vicente's martyrdom occurred at a time when many priests and religious were being targeted and executed solely for their faith. Despite the threats and dangers, he remained steadfast in his commitment to Christ and his mission as a priest.

In recognition of his martyrdom, Pope Benedict XVI declared Father Vicente's martyrdom on June 26, 2006, issuing a decree acknowledging his heroic death for the sake of the faith. A year later, on October 28, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified Blessed Juan Peña Ruiz, elevating him to the status of Blessed in the Catholic Church.

Although no specific representation has been mentioned, it is customary for the representation of a blessed or saint to reflect their life and ministry.
