Beato Julio Múzquiz Erdozáin

Blessed Julio M√∫zquiz Erdozáin, also known as Julio Fermín, was a devout Catholic monk and esteemed member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. Born on 11 April 1899 in the town of Aldava, located in Navarra, Spain, his life was marked by a deep devotion to God and a commitment to serving others.

Julio M√∫zquiz entered religious life and became a Marist Brother, dedicating himself to the education and spiritual formation of young people. Known for his kind and patient nature, he endeavored to instill in his students not only academic knowledge but also moral values and a strong foundation in their Catholic faith.

However, the turmoil and violence of the Spanish Civil War would soon take a tragic toll on this peaceful servant of God. In the midst of the conflict, Blessed Julio M√∫zquiz Erdozáin was cruelly martyred on 23 August 1936 in Toledo, Spain. His firm dedication to his faith and refusal to renounce his religious beliefs earned him the crown of martyrdom.

Recognizing his heroic virtue and his sacrifice for the sake of the Gospel, Pope Francis issued a decree of martyrology on 3 June 2013, officially venerating Blessed Julio M√∫zquiz Erdozáin. Following this, he was beatified on 13 October 2013 by Pope Francis, confirming his status as a blessed in the Catholic Church.
