Beata Kazimiera Wolowska

Blessed Kazimiera Wolowska, also known as Kasimir Wolowska, Maria Marta Wolowska, Maria Marta of Jesus, Mary Martha of Jesus, and Maria Marta of Ges√π Wolowska, was a dedicated member of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin. She was born on September 30, 1879, in Lublin, Lubelskie, Poland, as Kazimiera Wolowska.

After entering religious life, Kazimiera took on the name Maria Marta of Jesus, signifying her special devotion to Christ. She served as the prioress of the convent in Slonim, located in present-day Belarus.

During the period of Nazi persecutions in World War II, Maria Marta of Jesus fearlessly stood up to the oppressive regime and showed immense compassion and courage in protecting persecuted Jews. She provided aid by feeding, sheltering, hiding, and even teaching Jews, risking her own safety and that of her community.

Maria Marta's selfless acts of kindness and determination ultimately led to her imprisonment and execution by the Nazi authorities. On December 19, 1942, she made the ultimate sacrifice, dying for her unwavering commitment to human dignity and justice.

Recognizing her bravery, Pope John Paul II venerated Maria Marta of Jesus on March 26, 1999, issuing a decree of martyrdom. The Pope further honored her by beatifying her on June 13, 1999, in a solemn ceremony held in Warsaw, Poland.

Blessed Kazimiera Wolowska's feast days are celebrated on December 19th and also on June 12th, as she is counted among the 108 Martyrs of World War II. Her life serves as an inspirational example of selflessness, compassion, and unwavering faith in the face of tremendous adversity.
