Biografía

Beato Kolë Shllaku nació de Loros y Marë Ashtës. Estudió en escuelas franciscanas y entró como novicio en los Franciscanos Menores el 4 de octubre de 1922, haciendo sus votos perpetuos el 13 de septiembre de 1928 y tomando el nombre de Gjon. Persiguió estudios teológicos en los Países Bajos y fue ordenado sacerdote el 15 de marzo de 1931. Hombre de amplios intereses intelectuales, estudió ciencia, historia y filosofía. Cuando el régimen comunista tomó el poder en Albania y lanzó su brutal persecución contra la Iglesia católica, el padre Kolë fue arrestado junto con muchos otros clérigos. Soportó prisión y tortura antes de ser ejecutado por su fe. Es honrado entre los Mártires de Albania que dieron testimonio de Cristo bajo uno de los regímenes ateos más represivos del siglo XX.
