Beato Luis François Lebrun

Blessed Louisfrançois Lebrun was a Benedictine Maurist priest who lived during the turbulent period of the French Revolution. He was born on April 4, 1744, in Rouen, Seine-Maritime, France.

As a devout priest, Blessed Louisfrançois Lebrun dedicated his life to serving God and the Catholic Church. Unfortunately, during the anti-Catholic persecutions of the French Revolution, he found himself imprisoned on a ship in the harbor of Rochefort, France. This period marked a time of great hostility towards religious figures, and many priests and religious were subjected to persecution and imprisonment.

Tragically, Blessed Louisfran√ßois Lebrun was left to die aboard the prison ship Deux-Associés on August 20, 1794, in Rochefort, Charente-Maritime, France. His martyrdom, along with other victims who suffered a similar fate on the Hulks of Rochefort, is commemorated on August 20th.

In recognition of his sacrifice and unwavering faith, the Catholic Church formally recognized Blessed Louisfrançois Lebrun's martyrdom. On July 2, 1994, Pope John Paul II declared him venerable, signifying that his life was exemplary and deserving of veneration. This was followed by his beatification on October 1, 1995, also by Pope John Paul II.

Blessed Louisfrançois Lebrun's life and martyrdom serve as an example of courage, steadfastness, and devotion to the Catholic faith, even in the face of intense persecution and opposition. Through his intercession and example, he continues to inspire and strengthen the faithful in their own spiritual journeys.
