Biografía

Blessed Luciano Verdejo Acuña was a married layman in the diocese of Almeria, Spain, who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on October 26, 1885, in Almeria, Spain, and lived a faithful and devoted life as a husband and father.

Luciano Verdejo Acuña grew up in a devout Catholic family and embraced the teachings of the faith from an early age. He married and settled in the diocese of Almeria, where he actively participated in the life of the Church as a layperson. Luciano was known for his strong commitment to his family, his community, and his faith.

During the tumultuous times of the Spanish Civil War, Luciano remained steadfast in his Catholic beliefs, despite the challenging and hostile environment. In June 1938, Luciano's unwavering faith led to his martyrdom in the town of Turón, Granada, Spain. He was martyred for refusing to renounce his Catholic faith and for remaining loyal to the teachings of the Church.

Following his death, Luciano Verdejo Acuña's reputation for holiness and his martyrdom began to spread among the faithful. His cause for beatification and canonization was introduced, and a thorough investigation into his life, virtues, and the circumstances of his death took place.

On June 14, 2016, Blessed Luciano Verdejo Acuña was proclaimed venerable by Pope Francis. This decree of martyrdom recognized that Luciano had willingly given his life for his faith, thus making him a martyr for the Catholic Church. The beatification ceremony took place on March 25, 2017, in the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos de Aguadulce, Almería, Spain.

This event brought together numerous faithful from around the world to honor and celebrate the heroic testimony of Luciano Verdejo Acuña.
