Beato Lucinio Fontanil Medina

Blessed Lucinio Fontanil Medina, also known as Primitivo of Villamizar, was born on February 12, 1884, in the town of Villamizar, León, Spain. At the age of 30, he joined the Franciscan Capuchins in 1914 and took the name Primitivo di Villamizar. In 1915, he made his religious profession as a lay brother, dedicating his life to serving God and the Church.

In 1936, Brother Primitivo was serving in El Pardo, Madrid, Spain when the Spanish Civil War erupted. Tragically, on July 21, the convent where he resided came under siege by hundreds of militiamen.
