Biografía

Blessed Lucinio Fontanil Medina, also known as Primitivo of Villamizar, was born on February 12, 1884, in the town of Villamizar, León, Spain. At the age of 30, he joined the Franciscan Capuchins in 1914 and took the name Primitivo di Villamizar. In 1915, he made his religious profession as a lay brother, dedicating his life to serving God and the Church.

In 1936, Brother Primitivo was serving in El Pardo, Madrid, Spain when the Spanish Civil War erupted. Tragically, on July 21, the convent where he resided came under siege by hundreds of militiamen. Brother Primitivo was arrested during the attack but was soon released. Realizing the danger he faced, he sought refuge with a nephew in Madrid, going into hiding to protect his life.

Unfortunately, his efforts to remain hidden were unsuccessful, and on May 19, 1937, he was recognized as a Capuchin and subsequently seized. Just a few hours after his capture, he was executed for his unwavering faith and dedication to the Catholic Church. Brother Primitivo's courageous martyrdom serves as a testament to his deep spirituality and commitment to his religious vocation.

On March 27, 2013, Pope Francis recognized Brother Primitivo's martyrdom, and he was venerated as a blessed. His beatification was formally celebrated on October 13, 2013, at the Complex Educatiu in Tarragona, Spain. The ceremony was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato, symbolizing the Catholic Church's acknowledgment of Brother Primitivo's sanctity and his ultimate sacrifice for his beliefs.

Blessed Lucinio Fontanil Medina's feast day is celebrated annually on May 19th, the day he was martyred. He serves as an inspiring figure for all Christians, reminding them of the importance of faith, devotion, and uncompromising dedication to their beliefs. Though his representation is not defined in the available details, the memory of his sacrifices and spiritual achievements lives on as a source of inspiration for Catholics around the world.
