Biografía

Blessed Luis De Erdoiza Zamalloa, also known as Father Luis of Saint Michael of the Saints, was a Trinitarian priest who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on August 25, 1891, in Amorebieta, Vizcaya, Spain.

Father Luis dedicated his life to serving God and others as a priest. He entered the Trinitarian Order, a religious community focused on the redemption of Christian captives, where he received his formation and was ordained. Known for his compassion, devotion, and commitment to his faith, Father Luis became an inspiration to many.

During the tumultuous time of the Spanish Civil War, Father Luis found himself in a position of great danger due to his religious affiliation. The war presented tremendous challenges, particularly for Catholic priests, as anti-religious sentiments prevailed in certain factions. However, Father Luis remained resolute in his faith, continuing to minister to the spiritual needs of his community despite the risks.

Sadly, his unwavering dedication to the Catholic faith ultimately led to his martyrdom. On September 24, 1936, in Cuenca, Spain, Father Luis was captured and executed for his refusal to renounce his religious beliefs. His courageous stand for his faith, even in the face of persecution, exemplified his deep commitment to God and the teachings of the Church.

The Catholic Church recognized the sanctity of Blessed Luis De Erdoiza Zamalloa, and on June 26, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI declared him venerable, acknowledging his life of heroic virtue. On October 28, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him, officially presenting him as a martyr for the faith.

Blessed Luis De Erdoiza Zamalloa serves as a shining example of steadfast faith, sacrificial love, and unwavering commitment to God. His memory reminds us of the countless individuals throughout history who have sacrificed their lives in defense of their religious beliefs, leaving a lasting impact on the Catholic Church and inspiring others to stand firm in their faith.
