3pm on 10 January 1883 in El Suncho, Córdoba, Argentina of natural causes; interred in the cathedral of Córdoba; his heart was enshrined in an urn and venerated as a relic at the Franciscan convent in Catamarca, Argentina; the heart was stolen from the urn on 30 October 1990; the heart was found abandoned nearby on 7 November 1990; no suspect was identified in the theft; the heart was stolen from the urn on 20 January 2008 by Gemain Jasani who said that he had thrown it into a trash can several blocks from the convent; he was charged with the theft, but the heart was never recovered

Beatificado

13 March 2021 by Pope Francis; the beatification recognition was celebrated in Catamarca, Argentina; the beatification miracle involved the cure of a case of chronic osteomyelitis in the femur of a small girl after doctors had given up and planned to amputate the limb
