Biografía

Blessed Manuel Alcayde Pérez, also known as Manuel Alcayde Pérez, was ordained a priest in the diocese of Guadix, Spain on 23 September 1893. He served as a coadjutor priest in the parish of Fiñana, Almeria, Spain. Born on 15 February 1869 in Fiñana, Almeria, he dedicated his life to the service of God and the Catholic Church.

During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, Father Manuel Alcayde Pérez courageously upheld his faith and ministered to the needs of his community. However, his unwavering commitment to his beliefs eventually led to his martyrdom. On 18 September 1936, he gave his life for his faith on the Cuesta de la Reina in Nacimiento, Almeria, Spain.

Blessed Manuel Alcayde Pérez's strong faith and steadfast devotion to his pastoral duties earned him great respect and admiration from his parishioners. His exemplary life of service and sacrifice inspired many to deepen their relationship with God and live virtuous lives.

Recognizing his extraordinary dedication and martyrdom, Pope Francis declared the martyrdom of Manuel Alcayde Pérez on 14 June 2016. On 25 March 2017, in a solemn ceremony held at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos de Aguadulce in Almería, Spain, Pope Francis elevated him to the rank of Blessed. The beatification ceremony was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato, a high-ranking official of the Catholic Church.

Blessed Manuel Alcayde Pérez's feast day is celebrated on 18 September each year. His beatification serves as an inspiration and a reminder of the heroic witness and sacrifice made by countless individuals during a time of significant persecution against the Catholic Church in Spain. His memory continues to live on as a testament to the power of faith and the ultimate triumph of goodness over adversity.
