Biografía

Blessed Manuel Font Y Font, also known as Manuel Font i Fábregas, was a Claretian priest who became a martyr during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on June 13, 1878, in the town of Torrebeses, situated in the province of Lleida, Spain.

Deeply committed to his faith from a young age, Manuel Font Y Font joined the religious congregation of the Claretians and was ordained as a priest. Throughout his ministry, he dedicated himself to spreading the teachings of Catholicism and serving his community with great love and compassion.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, which lasted from 1936 to 1939, the faith-based persecution was rampant. On October 19, 1936, Father Manuel Font Y Font was martyred at Mas Claret, located in Sant Pere dels Arquells, Lleida, Spain. He bravely faced martyrdom, refusing to renounce his faith or abandon his vocation, even in the face of immense opposition and danger.

Blessed Manuel Font Y Font's courage and steadfastness in the face of persecution led to his recognition by the Catholic Church. On December 21, 2016, Pope Francis decreed his martyrdom, bestowing upon him the title of Venerable. A year later, on October 21, 2017, Pope Francis presided over his beatification ceremony at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The beatification was celebrated in the presence of Archbishop Angelo Amato, who represented the Pope.

Today, Blessed Manuel Font Y Font is venerated by the Catholic Church as a symbol of unwavering faith and devotion. His feast day is celebrated on October 19th, and he is also remembered on February 1st as one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs. Through his inspiring life and martyrdom, Blessed Manuel Font Y Font serves as a shining example of sacrifice and dedication to one's beliefs in the face of adversity.
