Biografía

Blessed María Cinta Asunción Giner Gomis, also known as Sister María Patrocinio of Saint John, was a nun and member of the Religious of Mary Immaculate, Claretian Missionary Sisters. She was born on January 4, 1874, in Tortosa, Tarragona, Spain.

María Cinta Giner Gomis dedicated her life to serving God and the Church as a nun. She joined the Religious of Mary Immaculate, a religious congregation founded by Saint Anthony Mary Claret, known for their mission of evangelization and education. As a Claretian Missionary Sister, María Cinta embraced a life of poverty, chastity, and obedience, living in community with her fellow sisters.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, when Spain was torn apart by political and social unrest, María Cinta remained steadfast in her faith despite the increasing persecution faced by religious communities. She continued her mission of spreading the message of God's love even in the face of danger.

Tragically, on November 13, 1936, María Cinta met her martyrdom in Portichol de Tavernes de la Valldigna, Valencia, Spain. She gave up her life as a witness to her faith and devotion to Jesus Christ. Her courageous sacrifice serves as a testament to her unwavering commitment to her religious vocation and her steadfastness in the face of persecution.

María Cinta's virtue and martyrdom did not go unnoticed within the Church. On December 18, 2000, she was proclaimed venerable by Pope John Paul II, who recognized her heroic virtue and the sanctity of her life. Later, on March 11, 2001, Maria Cinta was beatified by Pope John Paul II. Her beatification, a significant step towards her canonization, acknowledges her as a blessed martyr, a model of faith and commitment to Christ.

Blessed María Cinta Asunción Giner Gomis, also known as Sister María Patrocinio of Saint John, remains an inspiration to all who are willing to sacrifice their lives for their faith. Her example serves as a reminder of the enduring strength and power of faith in the face of adversity, and her memory continues to be honored on her feast day, November 13th.
