Biografía

Blessed Marcelino Rebollar Campo, also known as Julián Marcelino, was a devout monk and a member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. His unwavering faith and dedication to his vocation led him to become a martyr during the Spanish Civil War.

Marcelino was born on 29th November 1914 in Tresviso, Santander, Spain. From a young age, he displayed a deep sense of spirituality and a strong desire to serve God. Recognizing his calling, he joined the Marist Brothers, a Catholic religious order known for their commitment to education and the formation of young minds.

As a Marist Brother, Marcelino dedicated himself to the education and moral upbringing of countless students. He was deeply devoted to his community and strove to instill in his pupils the values of faith, love, and compassion. Known for his kindness, patience, and gentle nature, Marcelino was cherished by both his colleagues and students alike.

However, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, religious persecution intensified, leading to the persecution and martyrdom of many Catholics, including Marcelino. On 3rd December 1936, Marcelino met his tragic end in the town of Paracuellos de Jarama, Madrid, at the young age of 22. He was martyred for refusing to renounce his faith and for remaining steadfast in his commitment to Christ and his religious vocation.

The heroic witness of Marcelino Rebollar Campo did not go unnoticed by the Catholic Church. On 3rd June 2013, Pope Francis declared him venerable, recognizing the martyr's profound faith and sacrificial death. Subsequently, on 13th October 2013, Pope Francis beatified Marcelino, affirming his sanctity and holding him up as an example of Christian virtue and courage for the faithful to emulate.

Blessed Marcelino Rebollar Campo serves as an inspiration to Christians today, reminding us of the importance of standing firm in our faith, even in the face of adversity. His life and martyrdom bear witness to the enduring power of faith and the extraordinary strength that can be found in the humblest of souls.
