Beato Marciano Herrero Martínez

Blessed Marciano Herrero Martínez, also known as Valerio Bernardo or Marziano Herrero Martinez, was born on July 11, 1909, in Sta. María de Porquera de los Infantes, Burgos, Spain. He received his education from the Brothers of the Christian Schools, commonly known as the De La Salle Brothers. Inspired by their mission, Marciano decided to join the religious order himself, dedicating his life to teaching and serving others.

After joining the Brothers, Blessed Marciano began his teaching career in various Spanish cities, including Jerez and Sanlucar de Barrameda. In 1933, he was assigned to teach in the city of Almería. Marciano's dedication to his students and his faith was evident in his teaching, as he strived to impart both knowledge and spiritual guidance to those under his care.

Tragically, Blessed Marciano's life was cut short during the turmoil of the Spanish Civil War. On August 31, 1936, he was martyred for his Catholic faith, bravely enduring persecution and ultimately being shot at Pozo de la Lagarta, Tabernas, Almería, Spain. Alongside many others who also gave their lives for their beliefs, Blessed Marciano became one of the Martyrs of Almería, commemorated on November 16.

Blessed Marciano Herrero Martínez's life stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to his vocation as an educator and as a follower of Christ.
