Biografía

Blessed Maria Carme Fradera Ferragutcasas was a devout Catholic nun and member of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. She was born on October 25, 1895, in Riudarenas, Girona, Spain. From a young age, Maria Carme felt a strong calling to serve God and dedicate her life to the service of others.

Maria Carme entered the religious life and became a member of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. As a nun, she fully embraced the charism of her congregation, which focused on the education and spiritual formation of young girls.

During the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War, Maria Carme's faith and commitment to her vocation were tested. She courageously continued her work, providing shelter, education, and spiritual guidance to those in need, regardless of the dangers that surrounded her.

Sadly, on September 27, 1936, Maria Carme Fradera Ferragutcasas was martyred in Lloret de Mar, Girona. She became a victim of the violence and persecution that characterized this period in Spanish history. Despite the difficulties and threats she faced, Maria Carme remained steadfast in her faith and commitment to her calling as a nun.

Recognizing her virtuous life and heroic death, the Catholic Church acknowledged Maria Carme's martyrdom. On December 16, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI decreed her veneration, acknowledging her as a martyr for the faith. Then, on October 28, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified her, declaring her blessed and thus worthy of public veneration.

Blessed Maria Carme Fradera Ferragutcasas is remembered for her selflessness, unwavering faith, and dedication to serving others, even in the face of persecution and violence. Her example continues to inspire Catholics worldwide, reminding them of the courage and strength that come from a deep relationship with God and a commitment to live out one's faith in service to others. Her feast day is celebrated on September 27 each year, commemorating the day of her martyrdom.
