Blessed Maria Christophora Klomfass and 14 Companions

The cause concerns the martyrdom of fifteen sisters of the Congregation of Saint Catherine Virgin and Martyr, all of whom died between 22 January and 25 November 1945 during the Soviet invasion of Poland. Sister Maria Christophora Klomfass, born Marta Klomfass at Rasząg on 19 August 1903, professed in 1928 and from 1937 served as nurse and teacher in the nursing school at the St Marienkrankenhaus in Allenstein; she was killed on 21 January 1945, almost forty-two years old. Sister Maria Liberia Domnick, born in 1904, professed in 1932 and second assistant in the operating theatre of the same hospital, was shot in the street on 22 January while trying to obtain food for the hospital. Sister Maria Leonis Müller, born at Danzig in 1913 and professed in 1938, was captured by the Red Army on 22 January, repeatedly raped, imprisoned, and deported to Russia, where she died about 5 June.

Sister Maria Mauritia Margenfeld, born in 1904, chief dietician and cookery teacher, was seized, raped, marched to Przasnysz and Ciechanów and deported to Tula, where she nursed typhus patients and died of ill-treatment on 7 April 1945.
