Biografía

Blessed Maria Crucified Satellico, also known as Elisabetta Maria Satellico and Maria Crocifissa, was born on 31 December 1706 in Venice, Italy. She was the daughter of Piero Satellico and Lucia Mander and grew up in the house of her maternal uncle, who was a priest. Despite being weak and sickly as a child, Maria Crucified exhibited great strength in prayer, music, and singing. She expressed her deep desire to become a nun, stating, "I want to become a nun, and if I succeed, I want to become a saint."

At a young age, Maria Crucified entered the Poor Clare Monastery of Ostra Vetere, where she continued to nurture her love for music and singing by taking on the responsibility of being the community's singer and organ player. Eventually, at the age of 19, she made the decision to join the Poor Clares, taking the name Maria Crucified. On 19 May 1726, she made her religious profession, dedicating her life to God and embracing the role of an abbess within her community.

During her time as abbess, Maria Crucified exemplified exemplary leadership and devotion to her fellow sisters. She guided and supported them in their spiritual growth, encouraging a life of prayer and virtue. Her gentle and compassionate nature made her beloved by both her sisters and the local community.

On 8 November 1745, Maria Crucified passed away of natural causes, leaving behind a legacy of deep faith and holiness. She was laid to rest at the Church of Saint Lucy in Ostra Vetere, Italy, the place where she had dedicated her life to God and fulfilled her vocation.

Recognition of Maria Crucified's virtuous life and her potential for sainthood began to emerge years after her passing. On 14 May 1991, Pope John Paul II declared the decree of heroic virtues, officially recognizing the sanctity of Maria Crucified. Her beatification ceremony took place on 10 October 1993, also performed by Pope John Paul II.

Blessed Maria Crucified Satellico's life serves as an inspiration for all believers, reminding us of the profound dedication and commitment to prayer, music, and communal life within the religious vocation. Her unwavering faith and desire to become a saint continue to inspire many to strive for holiness in their own lives.
