Biografía

Blessed Mariano Sierra Almázor was a Benedictine priest in the Solesmes Congregation who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 25 February 1869 in Alquézar, Huesca, Spain, and dedicated his life to serving God and spreading the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Father Mariano Sierra Almázor's journey to priesthood began when he entered the Benedictine order. He became a member of the Solesmes Congregation, a renowned Benedictine monastic community known for its dedication to liturgical restoration and Gregorian chant. As a Benedictine priest, Father Mariano Sierra Almázor embraced a life of prayer, contemplation, and service to others.

During the Spanish Civil War, which erupted in 1936, religious persecution and violence against those who were faithful to the Catholic Church were prevalent. Father Mariano Sierra Almázor, known for his unwavering faith and commitment to his calling, became a target for persecution.

On 9 August 1936, in Barbastro, Huesca, Spain, Father Mariano Sierra Almázor was martyred for his religious beliefs. Later, on 13 October 2013, Pope Francis beatified Father Mariano Sierra Almázor in a ceremony held at the Complex Educatiu, Tarragona, Spain. Cardinal Angelo Amato served as the chief celebrant for the beatification ceremony, recognizing and honoring Father Mariano Sierra Almázor's sanctity and sacrifice.
