Beata María Cluse

Blessed Marie Cluse, also known as Maria Cluse, Marta of the Good Angel, Marta dell‚ÄôAngelo Buono Cluse, and Sister Marthe of the Good Angel, was a Sacramentine nun who made her profession on 4 November 1783. She was born on 5 December 1761, in Bouvante, Dråme, France.

Marie Cluse lived during a tumultuous period in French history, the French Revolution. As the revolution swept through France, the Catholic Church and religious orders faced severe persecution. Marie Cluse, along with many other Catholics, bravely held onto her faith during this trying time.

Marie Cluse's unwavering dedication to her religious vocation led her to become a martyr. She was martyred in the French Revolution and died a brutal death. On 12 July 1794, in Orange, Vaucluse, France, Marie Cluse was guillotined on the scaffold. The details of her martyrdom speak to her incredible courage and steadfastness.

It is reported that, moments before her execution, her executioner offered to marry her. However, displaying her unwavering commitment to God, Marie Cluse declined the offer, stating that she would rather have dinner with the angels that very night. On 19 March 1925, Pope Pius XI formally recognized her martyrdom by issuing a decree of martyrdom, thus venerated her as a saint. Later, on 10 May 1925, Pope Pius XI proceeded to beatify her, elevating her to the status of the Blessed.
