Biografía

Blessed Marieclaire Du Bac, also known as Sister Claire of Saint Rosalie, was a renowned Ursuline nun who met martyrdom during the tumultuous period of the French Revolution. Born on 9th January 1727 in Laudun, Gard, France, she dedicated her life to serving God and educating young women.

Marieclaire Du Bac demonstrated exceptional intellectual abilities from an early age, and her parents recognized her potential. Embracing her calling, she joined the Ursuline Order and professed her vows as a nun. Throughout her religious life, Sister Claire exhibited an unwavering devotion to God, combined with an incredible passion for teaching.

Her legacy as an educator came to fruition when she was appointed as the headmistress of a girls' school in Orange, Vaucluse, France. With her compassionate nature and exceptional teaching skills, Sister Claire became beloved by her students and respected by the community. Through her guidance, many young women found their path in life, discovering their worth and purpose.

Unfortunately, during the French Revolution, religious orders faced severe scrutiny and persecution, as the revolutionary government sought to eradicate all forms of religious presence. In 1794, Sister Claire and her fellow sisters were accused of conspiring against the Revolution, resulting in their arrest and subsequent trial.

Despite the immense danger she was in, Sister Claire maintained her faith and courageously confessed her dedication to Christ. Refusing to renounce her faith or abandon her vows, she faced her execution with remarkable strength and grace. On 26th July 1794, Sister Claire was guillotined in Orange, joining the ranks of the countless martyrs who sacrificed their lives during this chaotic period.

The heroic faith and virtue displayed by Sister Claire did not go unnoticed. In recognition of her martyrdom, Pope Pius XI decreed her veneration on 19th March 1925, acknowledging her as a model of unwavering faith and commitment. On 10th May 1925, Pope Pius XI solemnly beatified her, allowing the faithful to seek her intercession and honor her as Blessed Marieclaire Du Bac.
