Biografía
Blessed Mateo Molinos Coloma, also known as Brother Dionisio Luis, was a member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and a martyr of the Spanish Civil War. He was born on August 21, 1890, in Forcall, Castellón de la Plana, Spain.
Mateo Molinos Coloma dedicated his life to the service of God and others through his vocation as a Christian Brother. He joined the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the De La Salle Brothers, a religious institute founded by Saint John Baptist de La Salle, which focused on education and the formation of young people.
During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, which took place from 1936 to 1939, Mateo Molinos Coloma faced great challenges and dangers due to his faith. He remained steadfast in his commitment to his religious calling and his dedication to the welfare of his students.
Tragically, on August 9, 1936, Mateo Molinos Coloma was martyred for his Christian beliefs. He was executed in Traveserres, Lleida, Spain, as part of the persecution of Catholics during the Spanish Civil War. His courageous example of faith in the face of persecution and his ultimate sacrifice have made him a revered figure in the Catholic Church.
Recognizing the holiness of his life and his martyrdom, Pope John Paul II declared Mateo Molinos Coloma venerable on June 22, 2004, with a decree of martyrdom. Subsequently, on October 28, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him, formally recognizing him as Blessed Mateo Molinos Coloma.
