Biografía

Blessed Miquel Codina Ventayol, also known as Blessed Miquel Codina, was a member of the Claretians, a Catholic religious congregation founded by Saint Anthony Mary Claret. He was born on November 8, 1909, in Artés, Barcelona, Spain.

Miquel Codina Ventayol entered the Claretian Order and made his religious profession on August 31, 1926. He dedicated himself wholeheartedly to his vocation and was ordained a priest on May 26, 1934. As a priest, he lived a life of faith and service, following the footsteps of Saint Anthony Mary Claret, who was known for his missionary work and evangelization efforts.

Tragically, in the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, Father Miquel Codina Ventayol fell victim to the violent persecution against Catholics. On October 12, 1936, in Malla, Vic, Barcelona, Spain, he was martyred for his unwavering commitment to his faith. He remained steadfast in his beliefs and refused to renounce his Catholic identity, even in the face of persecution and death.

Father Miquel Codina Ventayol is celebrated as one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs, whose feast day is observed on October 12. Additionally, he is also commemorated on February 1, along with the other Spanish Claretian Martyrs. These martyrs laid down their lives for their faith and serve as powerful examples of courage and devotion to God.

Recognizing his heroic virtue and martyrdom, Pope Francis officially declared the veneration of Blessed Miquel Codina Ventayol on December 21, 2016, through the decree of martyrdom. Later, on October 21, 2017, Pope Francis presided over the beatification ceremony, which took place at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The beatification was a momentous occasion, honoring the life and sacrifice of this brave servant of God.

Blessed Miquel Codina Ventayol's life serves as an inspiration to all believers, showing the profound commitment and sacrifice that can be demanded in living out one's faith. His willingness to give up his life rather than renounce his beliefs demonstrates the depth of his love for God and his unwavering dedication to the Catholic Church. May his memory continue to inspire and strengthen the faithful worldwide.
