Biografía

Blessed Pauline-Marie Jaricot, also known as Pauline-Marie Jericot, was born on 22 July 1799 in Lyons, France, into an aristocratic family. From a young age, Pauline exhibited a deep piety and devotion to her faith. At the age of 17, she embraced an ascetic lifestyle, committing herself to a life of extreme self-denial.

On 25 December 1816, Pauline privately vowed to live in perpetual virginity, consecrating herself entirely to God. Drawing inspiration from her devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, she gathered a group of pious servant girls to pray for reparation for the sins committed against the Sacred Heart. These young girls formed the group known as the Réparatrices du Sacré-C≈ìur de Jésus-Christ.

Pauline's charitable efforts extended beyond the walls of her home. In Saint-Vallier, she dedicated herself to the spiritual well-being of working girls, helping them lead more virtuous lives. To support her work and various charitable causes, Pauline initiated a unique fundraising effort. She and the Réparatrices began collecting small contributions, penny by penny, from anyone willing to offer them. They also enlisted others to join in their mission of compassionate giving.

With the assistance of Bishop Louis Guillaume Valentin Dubourg, Pauline established the Society of the Propagation of the Faith on 3 May 1822. This missionary society aimed to provide financial support for Catholic mission efforts around the world. The collected funds, gathered through the relentless determination of Pauline and her companions, were used to spread the Gospel and support missionaries worldwide.

Recognizing the power of collective prayer, Pauline founded the Association of the Living Rosary in 1826. This unique method of praying the rosary involved the distribution of different mysteries among participants, allowing for continuous prayer throughout the day. The Association helped increase devotion to the Rosary and fostered a sense of unity among its members.

Pauline experienced a remarkable healing of a heart condition through the intercession of Saint Philomena, leading her to develop a profound devotion to the saint. She actively promoted devotion to Saint Philomena throughout France, encouraging others to seek her intercession and experience her miraculous aid.

Blessed Pauline-Marie Jaricot lived a life of selflessness and devotion to her faith, tirelessly working for the spiritual and material well-being of others. Her efforts to support missions, her establishment of the Living Rosary Association, and her example of holiness continue to inspire Catholic faithful around the world.

Pauline passed away on 9 January 1862 in Lyons, France, due to natural causes. Her holiness and virtuous life were officially recognized when she was venerated on 25 February 1963 by Pope John XXIII. On 22 May 2022, Pope Francis beatified her, marking a significant milestone in her journey toward canonization. The beatification ceremony, presided over by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, took place in Lyon, France. During the beatification process, a miraculous healing occurred when a young girl, who had previously suffered brain damage and slipped into a coma due to oxygen deprivation from choking on food, experienced a complete recovery. This miracle further solidified the recognition of Pauline's extraordinary intercessory power.

Blessed Pauline-Marie Jaricot's life embodies the virtues of self-sacrifice, prayer, and a deep commitment to God's mission. Her legacy continues to inspire and motivate individuals to live lives of charity, prayer, and devotion.
