Biografía

Blessed Rafael Lobato Pérez, a devout Catholic layman, was born on February 28, 1905, in Algodonales, Cádiz, Spain. He lived his entire life in the archdiocese of Seville and dedicated himself to his work as a carpenter.

Rafael was deeply connected to his faith and actively supported the ministry of his brother, Blessed Salvador Lobato Pérez. Together, they sought to spread the love of Christ and bring consolation to those in need. As Salvador engaged in his vocation as a priest, Rafael's assistance was invaluable in ensuring the success of his brother's work.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, Rafael and Salvador were both arrested and imprisoned due to their unwavering commitment to their Christian beliefs. Despite the hardships they endured, they remained steadfast in their faith and trust in God's providence.

The brothers' unwavering devotion ultimately led to their martyrdom. On August 22, 1936, in El Saucejo, Sevilla, Rafael and Salvador were executed for their allegiance to the Catholic Church. They offered their lives as a testament to their unwavering faith and dedication to Christ, even in the face of persecution and violence.

Their martyrdom serves as a powerful example of courage, resilience, and martyrdom, inspiring countless individuals in their own spiritual journeys. Both Rafael and Salvador Lobato Pérez are a source of inspiration for their unwavering commitment to their faith and their selfless service to others.

Recognizing their sacrifice and the extraordinary virtues they lived, Pope Francis declared their martyrdom on June 22, 2023. This declaration venerated them as Blesseds within the Catholic Church.

Blessed Rafael Lobato Pérez's feast day is celebrated on August 22, commemorating the day of his martyrdom. As a devoted layman who unselfishly supported his brother's ministry and sacrificed his own life for the sake of the gospel, he serves as a role model for all Catholics striving to live out their faith amidst adversity.

Although information regarding his beatification and any specific representations of him are currently unknown, the legacy of Blessed Rafael Lobato Pérez endures as a testament to the power of faith, love, and sacrifice.
