Biografía

Blessed Rafael Reyes Moreno, also known as Rafael Moreno Reyes, was a priest of the diocese of Córdoba, Spain, who was dedicated to serving the community of Fernán N√∫ñez. Born on 24 April 1888 in Guadalcázar, Córdoba, he grew up in a religious and devout family. Inspired by his parents' faith and with a desire to serve God, Rafael pursued his vocation to become a priest.

After completing his studies in theology and philosophy, Rafael Reyes Moreno was ordained a priest of the diocese of Córdoba. He was known for his deep spirituality, dedication to the sacraments, and his pastoral care for the people he served. He was particularly recognized for his compassionate outreach to the poor and marginalized, always extending a helping hand to those in need.

However, during the tumultuous times of the Spanish Civil War, Rafael's faith and commitment to his calling were put to the ultimate test. The war, marked by political unrest and religious persecution, led to the martyrdom of numerous Catholics who refused to renounce their faith.

Tragically, on 25 July 1936, Blessed Rafael Reyes Moreno was martyred in Fernán-N√∫ñez, Córdoba, for his refusal to abandon his religious convictions. He courageously stood by his faith, even in the face of grave danger and persecution. His unwavering dedication to the Gospel and his commitment to serving God's people made him a shining example of Christian virtue.

Recognizing his heroic martyrdom, Pope Francis venerated Rafael Reyes Moreno on 23 November 2020 through a decree of martyrdom. Then, on 16 October 2021, Pope Francis beatified him at the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Córdoba, Spain. The beatification recognition ceremony was presided by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, a high-ranking official of the Catholic Church.

Blessed Rafael Reyes Moreno's beatification celebrates his life of sacrifice and selflessness, as well as his unwavering dedication to God and his fellow human beings. He serves as a reminder of the enduring power of faith and the importance of standing firm in the face of adversity. His example inspires us to live our lives with courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment to our beliefs.
