Biografía

Blessed Rosalieclotilde Bes, also known as Rosalia Clotilde di S. Pelagia Bès, is revered as a Catholic martyr and a member of the Sacramentine order. She is more commonly recognized as Sister Saint Pelagia of Saint John the Baptist.

Born on 30 June 1753 in Beaume-de-Transit, Dråme, France, Rosalieclotilde Bes entered religious life as a nun in the Sacramentine community. She devoted her life to prayer, contemplation, and the service of God.

During the tumultuous period of the French Revolution, when the Catholic Church and religious institutions were persecuted, Sister Pelagia remained faithful to her calling and to her religious vows. Despite the danger and personal risks involved, she continued to practice her faith and minister to those in need.

Tragically, Sister Pelagia's unwavering commitment to her beliefs led to her martyrdom. On 11 July 1794, in the city of Orange, Vaucluse, France, she was guillotined for her refusal to renounce her faith or abandon her religious community. Her courageous and steadfast faith in the face of persecution earned her a place among the martyrs who gave their lives during the French Revolution, and she is commemorated on 9 July as one of the Martyrs of Orange.

Recognizing her martyrdom and the sanctity of her life, Pope Pius XI issued a decree of martyrdom on 19 March 1925, venerated Rosalieclotilde Bes as a "Blessed." Subsequently, on 10 May 1925, Pope Pius XI officially beatified her in a ceremony that affirmed her as a blessed and an exemplar of faith.

Blessed Rosalieclotilde Bes's life and sacrifice serve as a testament to the strength and resilience of those who remain steadfast in their beliefs, even in the face of great adversity. Her story continues to inspire and remind believers of the importance of faith, even through challenging times.
