Biografía

Blessed Salvador Fernández Pérez, born on 29 July 1870 in San Pedro de Creciente, Pontevedra, Spain, was a Salesian priest and a martyr of the Spanish Civil War. He was baptized on the day of his birth and grew to be a devoted follower of Christ, dedicating his life to the service of the Church.

Salvador's religious vocation led him to become a Salesian priest, making his profession in SarriÖ-Barcelona, Spain on 8 December 1891. His ordination as a priest took place on 19 September 1896. He was known for his joy-filled and enthusiastic nature, always willing to work tirelessly in his vocation. Salvador's deep faith and commitment to his fellow believers made him a beloved figure among the faithful.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, Salvador was targeted and persecuted for his religious affiliation. He endured imprisonment, abuse, and various hardships due to his commitment to his priestly duties. However, despite the dangers he faced, he remained steadfast in his faith and unwavering in his dedication to serving God and the Church.

On 18 September 1936, in Madrid, Spain, Blessed Salvador Fernández Pérez was unjustly executed. His unfaltering loyalty to his priestly calling prompted his martyrdom, as he was put to death solely for the offense of being a priest. The ultimate sacrifice he made in defense of his faith makes him a shining example of martyrdom in the Catholic Church.

In recognition of his exemplary life and martyrdom, Pope Benedict XVI venerated Salvador on 26 June 2006, issuing a decree of martyrdom, affirming his heroic witness for Christ. Later, on 28 October 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him, bestowing upon him the title of "Blessed." Blessed Salvador Fernández Pérez is remembered and honored on his feast day, which is celebrated annually on 18 September.

As Blessed Salvador's representation is not indicated, we can cherish his memory and emulate his courageous faith and dedication to the priesthood as an inspiration for all Catholics.
