Biografía

Blessed Wojciech Gondek, also known as Cristino Gondek or Krystyn Gondek, was born on 6 April 1909 in Slona, Malopolskie, in the diocese of Tarnow, Poland. He was a devout individual who felt called to serve God and joined the Franciscan Friars Minor in 1928. After completing his religious formation, he made his solemn profession on 18 April 1933 and took the name Krystyn.

On 21 June 1936, Krystyn Gondek was ordained as a priest, and he enthusiastically embraced his role as a minister of the Catholic faith. He was appointed as a parish priest in Wloclaweck, Poland, where he served the people with dedication and love. However, his commitment to his calling would soon be tested.

Tragically, on 26 August 1940, during the occupation of Poland by Nazi Germany, Blessed Wojciech Gondek was arrested. He was then deported and imprisoned, subjected to unimaginable torture due to his unwavering faith. Despite the immense suffering he endured, Gondek remained steadfast, refusing to renounce his beliefs.

On 23 July 1942, in the Dachau prison camp located in Oberbayern, Germany, Blessed Wojciech Gondek was martyred for his faith. As a result of his sacrifice and unyielding devotion, he became one of the 108 Martyrs of World War II. Gondek's body was burned in the camp crematorium, and his ashes were scattered.

Blessed Wojciech Gondek is venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church. On 26 March 1999, Pope John Paul II issued a decree of martyrdom, recognizing Gondek's heroic virtue and sacrifice. Subsequently, on 13 June 1999, Pope John Paul II beatified him, acknowledging his sanctity and the inspiration he provides to the faithful.
