Saint Afra (died 304) was a Christian martyr who lived during the Diocletian persecution. She was dedicated to the service of the goddess Venus by her mother, Hilaria, but through the teachings of Bishop Narcissus, she and her family were converted to Christianity. Upon discovering her faith, Afra was brought before Emperor Diocletian, who ordered her to sacrifice to pagan gods. Refusing this command, she was condemned to death by fire and executed on August 7, 304 AD. Saint Afra is venerated as a martyr of the Church, along with Saints Ulrich and Simpert, as their feast day is celebrated together on August 7 in Augsburg, Germany.
