Saint Andrew

Andrew John Saint was born on November 30, 1946, and passed away on July 16, 2025, at the age of 78. He dedicated his life to architectural history, working as an architectural editor for the Survey of London from 1974 to 1986, and as a historian for Historic England (formerly known as English Heritage) until 1995. Saint was appointed Professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge in 1995 and held this position until 2006. During his tenure as General Editor of the Survey of London from 2006 to 2015, he co-authored volumes on Battersea, Woolwich, South East Marylebone, and Oxford Street. He was also a prolific author, contributing numerous journal articles and books, including an edited volume titled ‘Politics and the People of London: London County Council, 1889–1965’. His funeral was held at St Michael's, Bedford Park, London, designed by Richard Norman Shaw, as per his request.
