Saint Burkard

In the annals of the Church in Germany, few appointments carried the weight of establishing a new episcopal seat. At Würzburg in Austrasia, a pivotal moment occurred in the eighth century when the see was founded, and the first to hold this office was an Englishman named Burkard.
