Saint Callixtus I

Pope Callixtus I, also known as Callistus I, was the bishop of Rome from around 218 to his death in either 222 or 223. He served during the reigns of Roman emperors Elagabalus and Alexander Severus. According to Sextus Julius Africanus, he succeeded Zephyrinus as Bishop of Rome. Eusebius and the Liberian catalogue record his episcopate lasting five years from 217 to 222. Callixtus is credited with admitting converts from sects or schisms into the Church during his tenure. He is venerated by the Catholic Church as a saint, specifically as the patron saint of cemetery workers. His death, while traditionally associated with martyrdom for being Christian, is not explicitly confirmed in historical records.
