Saint Carlo da Sezze

Giancarlo Marchioni, born on 19 October 1613 in Sezze, Italy, was a professed religious of the Order of Friars Minor. Despite his parents' desire for him to become a priest, he chose a life of austerity and humility, serving as a porter and gardener within the order. His writings earned him respect across the Lazio region, where noble families such as the Colonna and Orsini sought his counsel. He was also esteemed by popes Innocent X and Clement IX. Charles of Sezze died on 6 January 1670 in Rome, Italy. His beatification took place in 1882, and he was canonized on 12 April 1959 by Pope John XXIII.
