Biografía

Epiphanius of Salamis (c. 310–320 – 403) was the bishop of Salamis, Cyprus, at the end of the 4th century. He is venerated as a saint by the Eastern Orthodox, Catholic Churches, and some Presbyterians due to his reputation as a strong defender of orthodoxy. Epiphanius gained notoriety for composing the Panarion, an extensive compendium detailing eighty heresies, which also included pagan religions and philosophical systems. He was particularly critical of contemporary uses of images in the church, though the authenticity of many quotations attributed to him by Byzantine Iconoclasts remains disputed. His contributions to Christian theology and his efforts against heresy continue to be recognized by the Church.
