Saint Iosephus Chang Sŏng-jib

In the shadow of Seoul’s ancient walls, a different kind of healing was being practiced, one that transcended the physical ailments of the body to address the condition of the soul. This was the witness of Iosephus Chang Sŏng-jib, a man whose life was ultimately defined not by the remedies he dispensed, but by the faith he maintained unto death. As a pharmacist by profession, Chang held a position of trust and utility within the community, bridging the gap between suffering and relief through the knowledge of his trade. Yet, it was his conversion to Christianity that would mark the true turning point of his existence, setting him on a path that would lead away from the safety of established norms and toward a radical allegiance to the Gospel.
