Giovanni Calabria was born on October 8, 1873, and died on December 4, 1954. He dedicated his life to serving the poor and the ill as a Roman Catholic priest. Giovanni established two congregations: the Poor Servants of Divine Providence and the Poor Sisters Servants of Divine Providence. These congregations aimed to better care for the poor in various Italian cities and later expanded their work abroad, while also promoting the message of the gospel among the impoverished communities. Giovanni's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to alleviating suffering and spreading the teachings of Christ.
Pope John Paul II beatified him on October 17, 1988, and canonized him as a saint on December 4, 1999. His feast day is celebrated on December 4 each year.
The faithful pray to Saint Giovanni Calabria for intercession in matters related to poverty alleviation and pastoral care.
