Saint Justus was the fourth archbishop of Canterbury, serving from around 604 until his death between 627 and 631. Pope Gregory the Great dispatched him to England as part of a mission to convert the Anglo-Saxons to Christianity in 601. Justus became the first bishop of Rochester in 604 and played a crucial role in urging the Celtic church to adopt the Roman method for calculating Easter's date, signifying an important step towards ecclesiastical unity. He attended the Council of Paris in 614, further demonstrating his commitment to Christian unity within England. Following King Æthelberht's death in 616, Justus had to flee to Gaul but was reinstated in his diocese the following year. In 624, he ascended to the Archbishopric of Canterbury and oversaw missionary efforts in Northumbria. After his death, he was venerated as a saint, with his remains translated to St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury, in the 1090s.
