Saint Lidwina of Schiedam

Lidwina (Lydwine, Lydwid, Lidwid, Liduina of Schiedam) was born on April 18, 1380, and died on April 14, 1433. She is a Dutch mystic honored as a saint by the Catholic Church. Lidwina's life was marked by suffering; at fifteen years old, she suffered a severe injury while ice skating that left her progressively disabled. Despite her physical challenges, she fasted frequently and gained a reputation for healing and piety. Upon her death in 1433, her grave became a place of pilgrimage. Lidwina is the patroness saint of Schiedam, chronic pain, and ice skating.
