Saint Magín

Saint Magín, also known as Sant Magí or San Magín, was a Catalan hermit in Tarragona during the late third and early fourth centuries. Orphaned at an early age, he dedicated thirty years to living as a hermit in a cave on Mount Brufaganya. Upon the arrival of Roman prefect Dacian, who was persecuting Christians under Emperor Maximian's edict, Magín attempted to convert them to Christianity and was subsequently imprisoned. Miraculously freed from his captivity, he left Tarragona through what is now called the Sant Magí gate and established a chapel there before returning to Mount Brufaganya. He was again captured in the cave and taken to Tarragona, then transferred to Gaià where he was beheaded on August 25, 306. His life as a hermit and his death by martyrdom exemplify his unwavering commitment to Christ despite persecution.
