Saint María Soledad Torres y Acosta

María Soledad Torres y Acosta, born Manuela on December 2, 1826, was a Spanish Roman Catholic professed religious and founder of the Servants of Mary. Her life was dedicated to nursing the sick and poor in various locations where her order operated. Despite facing initial rejection from the Dominicans due to her frail constitution, Torres joined a priest's fledgling religious cluster for women. She later became involved in leadership struggles within this community, being removed and reinstated twice. María Soledad Torres y Acosta was beatified in 1950 and canonized as a saint in 1970. Her feast day is celebrated on October 11, the date of her death. A biographical film titled 'Luz de Soledad' was produced about her life and struggles in Spain in 2016.
