Biografía

Marie Rivier was born on December 19, 1768, and died on February 3, 1838. She was a French Catholic religious sister who founded the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary with a focus on education. Rivier established a school before the French Revolution which was later confiscated due to the upheaval. After the revolution ended, she reopened her educational efforts and also founded her religious order to provide education for orphans and other needy children. Her beatification process began in 1853 under Pope Pius IX, who referred to her as 'The Woman-Apostle.' She was named Venerable by Pope Leo XIII in 1890 and later beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1982. Marie Rivier was canonized on May 15, 2022, by Pope Francis in Rome.
