Biografía

Esta biografía está disponible actualmente solo en inglés.

Saint Mawgan, or both Saint Mawgan and Meugan, are names referring to one or two Brythonic saints who flourished in the 5th or 6th century. Their names are widely attested in place-names and church dedications across Cornwall, Brittany, Wales, and Scotland. The parishes of St Mawgan and Mawgan-in-Meneage in Cornwall derive their names from Mauganus, while Meugan is associated with places like Machan in West Lothian (Scotland). No hagiographical Life survives for either saint, but figures bearing Latinised versions of these names appear in the Lives of Cadog and David. A Life of Cadog mentions a saint called Maucan or Moucan who arbitrates a quarrel between Cadog and Maelgwn, king of Gwynedd. Another Life of David refers to a monastery of Mawgan (Latin: Maucannus). Later, Meugan is mentioned in the Welsh genealogical collection known as Bonedd y Saint, which details the lineages of Welsh saints and was dated to around 1510.
