Moses the Black, also known as Moses the Strong and Moses the Robber, was a Nubian ascetic hieromonk in Egypt during the fourth century AD. Born around 330, he lived a life of crime before converting to an ascetic lifestyle. He is celebrated for his transformation from a criminal to a holy man dedicated to spiritual pursuits. Moses is highly venerated in both the Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox Churches. According to historical accounts, Sozomen's Ecclesiastical History, written about 70 years after Moses’s death, mentions him as one of the Desert Fathers. His feast day is celebrated on February 7th.
