Biografía

Pedro Calungsod (July 21, 1654 – April 2, 1672), also known as Peter Calungsod and Pedro Calonsor, was a Catholic Filipino-Visayan migrant who served as a sacristan and missionary catechist. He worked alongside the Spanish Jesuit Diego Luis de San Vitores in Guam, where they evangelized to the Chamorro people through catechesis, baptism, and colonization efforts. Despite his role in the spread of Christianity among the indigenous Chamorros, Calungsod remains a contentious figure in Chamorro history due to his involvement in the Spanish–Chamorro Wars, which saw brutal decimation and genocide of the Chamorro peoples. He was beatified on March 5, 2000, by Pope John Paul II and canonized alongside six others, including Kateri Tekakwitha, Giovanni Battista Piamarta, and Marianne of Molokaʻi, on October 21, 2012, at Saint Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.
