Biografía

Polycarp (c. AD 69–155) was a Christian bishop of Smyrna and one of the most prominent figures among the Apostolic Fathers. According to tradition, he had been a disciple of John the Apostle, one of Jesus's disciples, and was ordained as bishop by him. Polycarp is revered in Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, Oriental Orthodox, Lutheran, and Anglican churches for his role as an early Church leader and teacher. He died at an advanced age, not as a martyr, but remains venerated for his witness to the faith. His writings, particularly the Epistle of Polycarp to the Philippians, are important sources in the study of early Christian theology and practice. Polycarp's legacy is celebrated through his feast day on February 23rd.
