Saint Restitutus

Bishop Restitutus (fl. 314) was a Romano-British clergyman, likely from Londinium (London), who attended the church synod or Council of Arles in Gaul in AD 314. The Acta, the decisions made by the council, included signatures from three British bishops: Eborius from York, Restitutus from London, and Adelfius from a disputed location possibly being either Lincoln or Colchester. Despite uncertainty surrounding his exact role due to the corruption of the text, it is most probable that Restitutus was indeed Bishop of London. No further details about his life or ministry are known, nor are there records of his predecessors or successors in this see. His name does not appear in the list of supposed early 'Archbishops of London' compiled by 16th-century historian John Stow, which casts doubt on the authenticity of such a list and suggests Restitutus may have been an ordinary bishop rather than an archbishop.
