Saint Romanus of Rouen, also known as Romain or *Hruomann (died c. 640 AD), was a scribe and clerical sage who served as both Lord Chancellor of France and Référendaire during the reign of King Dagobert I (629–39). Though his birth date is unknown, he held significant positions in the Frankish court. His life is primarily known through legend and tradition, with artistic representations found in stained glass windows at Rouen Cathedral and the église Saint-Godard. The Catholic Encyclopedia notes that his legend has little historical value due to a lack of authentic information. He was venerated as bishop of Rouen and later became the patron saint of the city's 'foire Saint-Romain' on 23 October, which coincides with his feast day on 18 November.
