Biografía

Saint Samuel, also known as Samuel of Kalamoun or Samuel of Qalamun (597–695), was an Egyptian Coptic Orthodox saint venerated in all Oriental Orthodox Churches. He lived during a tumultuous period of history, witnessing the Arab invasion of Egypt and enduring torture for his Christian faith. Despite being subjected to severe persecution by the Chalcedonian Byzantines, Samuel remained steadfast in his religious convictions. His most notable legacy is the monastery he founded on Mount Qalamoun, which still bears his name today. Samuel's title 'confessor' reflects his willingness to endure torture rather than renounce his faith, though he was not a martyr. He is remembered for his unwavering commitment and is celebrated by the faithful as an example of Christian fortitude in the face of adversity.
