Saint Vittore

Vittore Carpaccio (c. 1460/65 – c. 1525) was an Italian painter of the Venetian school who studied under Gentile Bellini and was influenced by Antonello da Messina. His works, characterized by precise architectural detail and bold color, ranged from single pieces to large pictorial cycles, including The Legend of Saint Ursula and altarpieces like St. Thomas Aquinas Enthroned and Presentation of Christ in the Temple. Carpaccio's urban scenes, such as the Miracle of the Relic of the Cross at the Ponte di Rialto, provided vivid depictions of Venice during its height of power. Despite his talent, by about 1510, his style was seen as too conservative and lacked the Humanist influences that transformed Italian Renaissance painting.
