Born in the Kingdom of the Franks, he served as Chancellor to King Clotaire III, holding a position of significant secular influence. Renouncing worldly power with his wife’s gracious permission, he embraced the monastic life at Fontenelle Abbey in Normandy, France, joining the Benedictine Order.
